Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Service Manager to take a hands-on leadership role within our maintenance and service operations team. This role is responsible for managing workshop activities, field service operations, maintenance planning, fleet reliability, and technical support across the business.

The Service Manager will oversee the maintenance team, ensure equipment availability for operational projects, manage service budgets, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to maximise fleet performance and minimise downtime.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet and Asset Management

  • Manage the maintenance, repair, and servicing of Global Ocean's fleet of generators, compressors, oxygen generators, pumps, marine vessels, and associated equipment.

  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to maximise equipment reliability and lifecycle performance.

  • Monitor fleet utilisation, maintenance costs, equipment performance, and downtime metrics utilising our asset management tools.

  • Coordinate equipment inspections, certifications, and compliance requirements.

Leadership and Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the maintenance team, including Leading Hands, Mechanics, Apprentices, and Trades Assistants.

  • Establish performance expectations and ensure high standards of workmanship and accountability.

  • Manage workforce planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to meet operational requirements.

  • Foster a positive safety culture and strong team environment.

Operational Support

  • Work closely with Operations Managers and Project Teams to ensure equipment availability for projects and vessel operations.

  • Coordinate maintenance schedules around operational demands to minimise disruption.

  • Provide technical expertise and support for troubleshooting complex mechanical issues.

  • Assist with mobilisation and demobilisation planning for projects and vessels.

Mechanical Maintenance & Repairs

  • Perform diagnostics, servicing, and repairs on diesel engines, marine generators, air compressors, oxygen generation systems, and associated mechanical plant.

  • Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance and ensure accurate record-keeping.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, fuel, cooling, electrical, and hydraulic system issues across all equipment.

  • Carry out emergency repairs efficiently to minimise downtime.

Financial and Commercial Management

  • Monitor workshop productivity and service costs.

  • Manage supplier relationships and negotiate service agreements where required.

  • Oversee procurement of parts, consumables, and maintenance services.

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.

Safety, Compliance and Quality

  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company policies, legislative requirements, and industry standards.

  • Lead safety initiatives, risk assessments, and incident investigations.

  • Maintain maintenance records, asset registers, and service documentation.

  • Drive continuous improvement programs and quality management initiatives.

Skills and Experience

  • Trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic, Plant Mechanic, Marine Engineer, or equivalent.

  • Experience managing maintenance operations within marine, industrial, mining, construction, or heavy equipment industries.

  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, generators, compressors, hydraulic systems, and industrial plant.

  • Demonstrated leadership and people management experience.

  • Strong planning, budgeting, and organisational skills.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

  • Experience with maintenance management systems and asset management software is highly desirable.

Qualifications

  • Trade Certificate or equivalent mechanical qualification.

  • Current Driver's Licence.

  • Marine industry experience highly regarded.

  • Management or business qualifications desirable but not essential.
