Fire Protection Equipment Technician

The Fire Protection Equipment Technician is responsible for the inspection, testing, maintenance, fault-finding and repair of fire protection systems to ensure compliance with Australian Standards, regulatory requirements and client expectations.

Key responsibilities include:

• Perform routine inspection, testing and maintenance of wet and dry fire protection systems in accordance with Australian Standards and company procedures.
• Inspect, test and maintain fire sprinkler systems, hydrant systems, hose reel systems, fire pumps (diesel and electric), portable fire equipment and associated fire protection infrastructure.
• Diagnose faults, identify defects and undertake repairs or recommend corrective actions to ensure system reliability and compliance.
• Conduct flow testing, performance testing and operational verification of fire protection systems and equipment.
• Prepare accurate service reports, inspection records, compliance documentation and defect reports using company systems and digital platforms.
• Liaise professionally with clients, building owners, facility managers and contractors regarding inspection findings, maintenance requirements and rectification recommendations.
• Assist with system upgrades, installations and commissioning activities as required.
• Maintain a thorough understanding of relevant Australian Standards, building compliance requirements and industry best practice.
• Ensure all work is performed safely and in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements, company policies and site-specific procedures.
• Participate in toolbox meetings, safety initiatives and continuous improvement activities.
• Support the delivery of high-quality customer service by responding to client enquiries and providing practical technical advice regarding fire protection systems.
• Assist in identifying opportunities to improve system performance, reliability and operational efficiency for clients.
• Maintain company tools, testing equipment, vehicles and materials in a safe and serviceable condition.
• Work collaboratively with service coordinators, supervisors and other technicians to ensure service delivery commitments are achieved.

About You:

To be short listed you should demonstrate: 

• A minimum of two years' relevant industry experience in the fire protection industry, with extensive hands-on experience across wet and dry fire systems.
• Proven experience inspecting, testing, fault-finding, repairing and maintaining fire sprinkler systems, hydrant systems, hose reel systems, fire pump sets (diesel and electric), portable fire equipment and special hazard suppression systems.
• Demonstrated experience conducting routine statutory testing and maintenance in accordance with Australian Standards and regulatory requirements.
• Experience identifying system defects, preparing detailed service reports and recommending rectification works, upgrades and system improvements.
• Strong technical capability in diagnosing faults and assessing the operational performance of fire protection systems and associated equipment.
• Experience working across a diverse range of facilities, including commercial buildings, industrial sites, educational facilities, aged care facilities, healthcare facilities, mining operations and large-scale infrastructure assets.
• Experience liaising directly with clients, property managers, facility managers, contractors and other stakeholders to coordinate service activities and communicate technical findings.
• Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety, including participation in risk assessments, toolbox meetings, site safety inspections and compliance activities.
