The Maker Group is seeking a skilled and detailed-oriented Wood Machinist to join our growing team. This is a full-time position suited to a tradesperson with experience in operating woodworking machinery and producing high-quality timber products.

As a Wood Machinist, you will be responsible for operating machinery to shape and cut wood materials according to specifications. The role supports our production team in delivering precision workmanship across a range of custom timber and framing projects.

The ideal candidate will have experience in woodworking and a keen eye for detail.

Task & responsibilities

Interpret technical drawings, job specifications, and sample components to understand production requirements
Select appropriate machinery, tools, and materials, and plan the sequence of work
Set up and adjust woodworking machines for cutting, shaping, and finishing timber components
Operate machinery such as saws, planers, routers, and lathes to process timber to required dimensions
Shape, sand, and finish timber products to achieve high-quality results
Prepare surfaces for finishing, including removing exiting coatings where required
Apply stains, paints, lacquers, and other finishes, followed by polishing and final detailing
Assemble and secure timber components, including frames and custom pieces
Assemble high-quality cabinets from pre-cut flat packs, ensuring accuracy and structural integrity
Mount and fit materials for framing or finishing purposes as required
Maintain a clean and safe workspace, ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety standards

Qualification & experience

Relevant trade qualification
Minimum 2-3 years of relevant work experience in a similar role
Proven ability to operate woodworking machinery safely and effectively
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
Good time management skills and ability to meet production deadlines
Strong understanding of workplace health and safety practices
Effective communication skills
