The Airconditioning Mechanic will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, servicing, maintenance, and repair of Daikin residential and commercial air conditioning systems across the Sutherland Shire and surrounding areas. This is a full-time, trade-qualified role requiring hands-on technical expertise and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship on every job.

Task & responsibilities

Installation and Assembly

  • Install Daikin split system, multi-split, ducted, and VRV air conditioning systems for residential and commercial clients.
  • Read and interpret plans, technical drawings, and manufacturer specifications to determine installation requirements.
  • Cut, thread, bend, and connect copper refrigerant pipework and fittings between indoor and outdoor units.
  • Drill penetrations and mount brackets, support structures, and wall plates for indoor and outdoor components.
  • Connect electrical wiring and control cabling between system components in compliance with AS/NZS 3000 Australian Wiring Rules.
  • Install ducted system components including air handlers, ductwork, diffusers, return air grilles, and zone controllers.

Commissioning and Testing

  • Commission installed systems to Daikin manufacturer specifications and relevant Australian Standards.
  • Pressure test and leak test refrigerant circuits using nitrogen and leak detection equipment.
  • Recover, recharge, and handle refrigerant gases (R410A, R32) in compliance with ARC licence conditions and relevant legislation.
  • Test electrical connections, controllers, thermostats, and zone controls to confirm correct operation.
  • Verify system performance parameters including airflow, pressures, and temperature differential against design specifications.

Servicing and Maintenance

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on split system, multi-split, and ducted air conditioning systems.
  • Clean filters, evaporator coils, condenser coils, drain pans, and condensate lines to maintain system efficiency.
  • Test refrigerant levels, pressures, electrical components, capacitors, and motor windings during scheduled servicing.
  • Test and calibrate thermostats, pressure switches, sensors, and zone controllers.
  • Service and maintain condensate drainage systems to prevent water ingress.

Fault Diagnosis and Repair

  • Diagnose faults using error codes, diagnostic tools, and systematic fault-finding techniques.
  • Replace or repair defective components including compressors, fan motors, PCB control boards, expansion valves, capacitors, and contactors.
  • Repair or replace damaged refrigerant lines, insulation, ductwork, and flexible connections.
  • Trace and rectify electrical faults in wiring, control circuits, and earthing systems.

Safety, Compliance, and Documentation

  • Comply with all Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) obligations and safe work practices on every job site.
  • Maintain all required licences including ARC Refrigerant Handling Licence and NSW Electrical Worker Licence.
  • Complete accurate job cards, service reports, and time sheets for every job.
  • Maintain service vehicles, tools, and test equipment in a clean and serviceable condition.
  • Provide professional on-site customer service, including system operation advice and handover to clients.

Qualification & experience

  • AQF Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration or equivalent; At least 3 years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications
  • Minimum one (1) year of full-time work experience as an Airconditioning Mechanic, performing installation, commissioning, servicing, and/or repair of split system, ducted, multi-split, or VRV air conditioning systems.
  • Current, valid driver's licence
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Australian WHS obligations and safe work practices in the HVAC/R trade.
  • Practical experience with Daikin air conditioning products (split systems, ducted, multi-split, and/or VRV systems).
  • Daikin product training certification or manufacturer-recognised experience.
  • White Card (Construction Induction) for commercial site access.
  • Safe work at heights certification.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to provide professional service to residential and commercial clients.
