Salary: $78,000 to $88,000 plus applicable superannuation.

Task & responsibilities

• Read and interpret workshop drawings, blueprints, welding symbols, specifications, and measurements to understand job requirements and welding procedures.
• Select and set up the most appropriate welding techniques and equipment (MIG, TIG, and Stick/arc) based on material type, thickness, joint design, position, and structural project needs.
• Prepare metal components and surfaces by cleaning, grinding, deburring, and fitting using angle grinders, powered tools, and other preparation methods to ensure optimal weld quality.
• Accurately position, align, and secure structural components using measuring tools (rulers, calipers, squares, levels), clamps, jigs, and fixtures for precise fit-up prior to welding.
• Perform high-quality welding in a range of positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead) using manual and semi-automatic MIG, TIG, and arc welding equipment on structural steel products.
• Carry out welding repairs, modifications, material buildup, gap filling, and reconstruction on machinery, structures, and metal components as required.
• Inspect completed welds visually and through appropriate methods to verify strength, penetration, appearance, integrity, and compliance with Australian standards, codes, and project specifications.
• Apply trigonometry, metal properties knowledge, and precise engineering measurements where needed to support accurate welding and alignment.
• Undertake manual handling of steel components safely during setup and welding operations.
• Set up, operate, adjust, and perform routine maintenance on welding machines, torches, regulators, and related equipment.
• Strictly adhere to safe welding, cutting, grinding, and manufacturing practices at all times, wearing required PPE and maintaining hazard awareness.
• Keep welding tools, equipment, and work areas clean, organised, and in safe working condition; promptly report any faults, damage, or safety issues.

Qualification & experience

• At least a relevant Certificate III or IV qualification
• At least 1 year work experience as a welder.
• Strong knowledge of welding techniques, materials, and safe welding practices.
• Ability to work accurately to measurements, tolerances, and quality requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a workshop environment.
