Petronam Pty Ltd of BP Petroleum, a locally owned fuel, oil and retail company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to apply for the position of Retail Manager at our busy store in Nambucca Heads, 2448, New South Wales. This is an excellent opportunity to run this site on your own with the support and backing from a family-owned business with an outstanding reputation and strong team environment. This is full-time long-term position with relocation assistance available to Nambucca Heads and access to use the sites vehicle.

Task & responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Retail Manager with a minimum of three years of full-time, or equivalent, experience in retail management or a closely related role. The successful candidate must be highly organised, motivated and customer-focused, with the ability to lead and support staff in a busy fuel and convenience retail environment. The role involves responsibility for the smooth, safe and profitable operation of the site, including staff supervision, customer service standards, stock control, compliance, supplier coordination, reporting and financial administration. The site operates Beacon POS and back-office systems, and the candidate must have sound knowledge of retail point-of-sale systems, back-office administration, operational reporting and relevant compliance requirements.

The duties and responsibilities of the Retail Manager include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the fuel and convenience retail site to ensure the store operates efficiently, safely and profitably;
  • Overseeing console operations and ensuring staff maintain a high standard of customer service at all times;
  • Monitoring equipment maintenance requirements, including pump, electrical and store equipment, and ensuring operational issues are identified, reported and resolved promptly;
  • Managing store administration, including daily reports, cash handling procedures, balancing, banking and reconciliation;
  • Overseeing daily fuel monitoring, including fuel dips, meter readings and fuel reconciliation processes;
  • Managing stock control, stocktaking, product rotation, merchandising and stock reconciliation;
  • Overseeing the use of Beacon POS, back-office systems, Microsoft Excel and other computer-based systems for reporting, reconciliation and operational management;
  • Ensuring operational tasks, reports and deadlines are completed accurately and within required timeframes;
  • Maintaining an exceptional customer experience and addressing customer or operational concerns in a professional and timely manner;
  • Recruiting, training, mentoring, motivating and supervising staff to maintain strong team performance and service standards;
  • Preparing staff rosters and coordinating weekend, flexible and after-hours staffing requirements as needed;
  • Ensuring all store operations, policies and procedures are properly implemented and followed;
  • Liaising with suppliers, vendors, service providers, internal management and external accountants;
  • Driving business profitability by monitoring sales, controlling costs, reducing expenses and minimising waste;
  • Maintaining strong communication with staff, customers, suppliers and management;
  • Demonstrating strong leadership, work ethic and genuine commitment to the ongoing success of the business;
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant workplace, fuel retail and food safety procedures, with a Food Safety Certificate being desirable.

Qualification & experience

At least Diploma of Business/ Bachelors of Business with minimum of 3 years of full time experience in similar position.
