Retail Manager (General)

The Role

As a Retail Manager, you will organise and control the daily operations of the liquor retail store to ensure efficient service delivery and a positive customer experience. The role involves overseeing product selection and stock management, supervising staff, coordinating purchasing and promotions, and ensuring compliance with relevant retail and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Determine appropriate product range, stock levels and service standards to ensure the store remains well stocked with wines, beers, spirits and related retail products.
• Develop and implement purchasing strategies and marketing initiatives, including setting retail prices and planning promotional activities.
• Promote and advertise the store’s goods and services through in-store displays, promotions and local marketing campaigns.
• Sell products and assist customers with product selection by providing guidance and recommendations on beverages and related items.
• Maintain accurate records of stock levels, inventory movements and financial transactions using retail management systems.
• Assist with budgeting activities by monitoring store revenue and expenses to support overall business performance.
• Manage staff recruitment, selection, rostering, training and supervision to ensure efficient store operations.
• Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements and relevant retail industry regulations.
• Coordinate consistency in product availability, pricing, promotional activities and service delivery within the store.
• Maintain organised operational documentation including supplier records, inventory reports and compliance documents.

Qualifications and Requirements

• A minimum qualification assessed at AQF Advanced Diploma, Associate Degree, Bachelor, Master or Doctoral level in a relevant field such as Business Management, Commerce or Retail Management.
• At least one year of post-qualification experience as a Retail Manager or in a similar retail management role performing comparable duties.
• Strong organisational and leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage daily retail store operations.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to engage with customers and staff professionally.
• Ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple operational responsibilities in a fast-paced retail environment.
• Proficiency in retail POS systems and standard office software including Microsoft Word, Excel and email platforms.
• Registration or licensing may be required depending on operational responsibilities and liquor retail regulations.
