The Media and Communication Section is a central strategic partner within the department and works closely with senior leaders across the department and the Attorney-General's Office to shape how the department communicates with the media and the Australian public. We sit at the heart of major priorities and provide trusted advice on government and departmental initiatives to ensure clear, timely and accurate information reaches staff and the community.
Our work is critical to government transparency and maintaining public trust. We help the public understand government decisions and strengthen the department's reputation through high-quality, consistent communication. We support all business areas across the department through sharing our expertise in media management, strategic communication, internal communication, online communication, graphic design and advertising.
As a media and communication officer, you'll play an influential role in how the department communicates, and help shape strategic messaging, support major announcements and contribute to products that reach Australians. You will provide high-quality advice and hands-on support across a wide range of communication activities, including:

To be eligible for employment at the Attorney-General’s Department applicants must be Australian citizens.
Applicants offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a police record check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a specified clearance level. The successful applicant must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information.
Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.

Through the Australian Government Solicitor, we also provide legal services to the Commonwealth, including legal advice and representation. Our department is the central policy and coordinating element of the Attorney-General's portfolio.
