POSITION DESCRIPTION

Key Relationships
This position reports to the Curriculum Leader: Art, Design and
Digital Technologies and works closely with faculty staff. Ultimately
responsible to the Principal via the Director of Business Operations.


Position Objective:
The Design and Technology Assistant provides assistance to Senior School Design and Technologies faculty
by maintaining equipment and materials, helping with faculty events, and performing general duties that
support the effective operation of Technologies and Design programs in our specialised Makerspace and
Fabrication Labs. The Design and Technology Assistant is employed on a part-time basis during term times.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Ensure availability of design and technology supplies required for faculty programs

  • Order, receive/collect and manage stock effectively in accordance with WHS requirements and
ensure resources are replenished as required.
  • Undertake Purchase Order requisitions for material and faculty expenses to meet curriculum
needs.
  • Prepare and Set up materials required for particular lessons and projects as per curriculum needs.
  • Run post-processing jobs (3D printing, laser cutting, CNC milling).
  • Update and maintain specialised Design and Technologies hardware and software licenses.
  • Maintain the order and tidiness of storage locations for supplies and student projects.
  • Ensure that supplies returned to storage areas and maintained in good order.
  • Undertake regular stocktake based on curriculum needs.

2. Provide assistance with projects, displays and events involving the Technologies Faculty
  • Prepare student displays in conjunction with staff as required.
  • Assist with events such as exhibitions, special faculty events and school productions to which the
Technologies Faculty contribute.


3. Perform general duties to support the requirements of Design and Technologies programs, including

  • Assist teachers and students to maintain the general tidiness of classrooms and workshops.
  • Ensure appropriate recording, storage and safety documentation for hazardous chemicals required
in the workshops.

  • Maintain resources, tools, equipment and inventory which support and enhance the curriculum and it is role
within the School environment in accordance with appropriate industry standards and operating procedures.
  • Ensure WHS practices are up-to-date and oversee workshop WHS compliance
  • Provide general support for Design and Technology teachers.

Key Selection Criteria: Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Prior experience performing similar functions.
  • Demonstrated capacity for self-direction in tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to a range of tasks as a member of a broader team.
  • Familiarity with technology supplies and their application in Design and Technology programs.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office, email, Adobe CC and CAD/CAM software and processes.
  • Sound administrative and organisational skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of WHS requirements and the handling, use and storage of hazardous chemicals,
tools and plant pertaining to the Design and Technology.
  • Current Provide First Aid certificate.
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic concepts being taught in Design and Technology subject areas would be
highly regarded.
  • Current or recent involvement in Design and Technology e.g. as a technician, designer, supplier, teacher or
related industry experience is desirable.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule during school and holiday hours, as and if required.
  • Ability to work autonomously, using discretion and judgement in applying process.

  • All staff must satisfy child protection screening and adhere to Westminster’s Child Safety and Wellbeing policy
which includes holding a current Working With Children Clearance.
  • A 6 month probationary period applies to all new employees.
