Chef

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Chef to join our busy kitchen team at Smokin' Joe's Pizza & Grill in Wodonga.

In this full-time role, you will plan, organise, and participate in the preparation and cooking of high-quality food for our restaurant. You will lead kitchen operations, maintain excellent food standards, and work collaboratively with the team to deliver outstanding meals to our customers.

Task & responsibilities

• Preparing, seasoning, and cooking a variety of dishes.
• Monitoring the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation to ensure high standards are maintained.
• Discussing food preparation issues with managers, kitchen staff, and waiting staff.
• Demonstrating cooking techniques and advising on cooking procedures to kitchen team members.
• Explaining, implementing, and enforcing hygiene regulations and proper cleaning processes.
• Selecting, training, and supervising kitchen staff, including cooks and other kitchen hands.
• Assisting with staff rostering, recipe development, and special dietary requirements.
• May freeze and preserve foods, and participate in the full operation of the kitchen in our establishment.

Qualification & experience

• Relevant qualifications in commercial cookery (e.g., Certificate IV or higher) or substantial equivalent experience.
• Minimum 2–3 years’ experience working as a Chef in a commercial kitchen.
• Proven skills in Italian/Australian cuisine, with strong knowledge of pizza, pasta, and grill preparation.
• Current Food Safety Supervisor certificate (or willingness to obtain).
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure during peak service times, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
• Strong organisational, communication, and leadership skills.
