The role

This is a full-time position based in Hanwood, NSW 2680, offering a guaranteed annual salary of $80,250 plus superannuation.

Hour of work

This is a full-time basis role where incumbent will be expected to work at least 38 hours per week.

Task & responsibilities

• Inspect incoming horticultural produce, almonds, vegetables, and oranges for quality, freshness, size, and condition.
• Ensure produce meets internal quality benchmarks, industry standards, and relevant regulatory and food safety requirements.
• Conduct grading and classification of produce based on size, colour, ripeness, maturity, and other criteria.
• Perform sampling and testing to assess purity, firmness, development, and the presence or severity of any defects or blemishes.
• Verify that packaging and loading of agricultural produce are completed according to required specifications and timelines.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, test outcomes, and deviations from quality standards; generate reports and communicate findings to management.
• Discuss complaints with the manager and participate in timely resolution strategies.
• Ensure quarantine protocols are arranged and implemented across relevant sections of the facility where required.
• Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvements and quality enhancement initiatives.
• Provide training and support to staff involved in the inspection and quality control processes to ensure consistent application of standards.
• Stay informed on evolving food safety laws, industry regulations, and best practices to maintain ongoing compliance.

Qualifications and experience

• A relevant Advanced Diploma or Diploma qualification in horticulture, agriculture, food quality assurance, or a related field, together with at least one year of relevant post-qualification work experience; alternatively, a minimum of three years of relevant industry experience may be considered.
• Previous experience in quality assurance, produce inspection, quality control, or a similar role within the horticultural, agricultural, fresh produce, or food production sector.
• Sound knowledge of quality assurance principles, inspection techniques, grading standards, product specifications, and hygiene and food safety requirements.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately inspect, assess, document, and report on product quality and compliance matters.
• Ability to identify quality issues and recommend corrective actions to maintain product standards and regulatory compliance.
• Effective communication and record-keeping skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with growers, farm staff, and production teams.
