About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Agriculture Laboratory Technician to support seed research, quality control, and agricultural projects across laboratory, manufacturing and field settings.  This role plays a critical part in maintaining and improving seed quality through technical projects and assisting with field-based agricultural and entomological activities as necessary.

The position involves project management, research data collection, analysis and reporting along with hands-on laboratory testing and field work as required. Success in the role will require close collaboration with teams in manufacturing, field, research, breeders, and quality.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Research Support

  • Plan and execute technical projects and research trials
  • Collect, analyse, and report experimental and field data
  • Generate project documentation, summaries, and technical reporting
  • Work collaboratively with scientists and researchers to improve seed performance and quality

Laboratory & Seed Quality Operations

  • Conduct and improve seed quality testing methods (e.g. germination, vigour, purity, moisture, seed health) across crops such as canola, corn, sorghum, and other hybrid seeds
  • Prepare, label, process, and store seed samples in accordance with protocols
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, databases, and test reports
  • Assist with research-based seed testing to support product improvement and breeding programs
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment in compliance with SOPs and quality standards

Field & Entomological Activities 

  • Participate in field visits, inspections, and trial monitoring
  • Assist with pollination activities (including canola) and seed production research
  • Identify and monitor insect pests and beneficial insects
  • Support entomological observations related to crop health and seed performance

About You

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Sciences, specialization in Entomology, pathology or plant protection, or a closely related discipline (essential)

Experience & Skills

  • Relevant Diploma or at least 3 years experience in agricultural research laboratories
  • Practical experience in field-based agricultural or research work
  • Strong understanding of laboratory procedures
  • Experience with research, breeding programs (Knowledge about Nucleic acids and cloning)
  • Ability to identify common crop insect pests and beneficial insects (honey bees)
  • Molecular laboratory experience (e.g. PCR, RNA/DNA work) highly regarded
  • Competent in data recording, reporting, and use of Microsoft Office tools
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work at a research-focused pace
