The Role

T and A Van Popering Family Trust is a well-established dairy farming business located in Invergordon, Victoria, operating a 300-hectare property comprising a 200-hectare milking platform and a 70-hectare fodder block. The business manages a herd of approximately 450 dairy cows and 150 heifers and maintains high standards of animal welfare, productivity, and workplace safety.

We are seeking a full-time Dairy Cattle Farmer to support day-to-day farm operations. The role involves milking duties, monitoring livestock health, implementing feeding and herd management plans in consultation with veterinarians and animal nutritionists, and maintaining hygienic farm environments in accordance with OH&S requirements. Responsibilities also include operating and maintaining farm machinery and milking equipment.

This is a hands-on role requiring practical dairy farming experience and a strong work ethic. The position is full-time and includes weekend work.

Key duties include:

  • Milking dairy cattle while ensuring livestock remain calm and comfortable so cattle continue to produce maximum quantities of milk
  • Monitoring dairy cows for signs of potential disease to ensure that all livestock remain in optimum health and produce high-quality milk
  • Weighing cows and checking for any physical signs of disease or injury and provide preventative medical care as needed
  • Reviewing the pens, buildings and other areas to ensure the areas remain hygienic to reduce the risk of injury and disease to the cattle and farm workers
  • Consulting with Animal Nutritionists and Livestock Feed Sales Representatives to create feeding plans that yield maximum milk production levels
  • Working in conjunction with Vets to provide health management, veterinary treatments, and routine vaccinations
  • Providing food and water to cattle and ensure that supplies remain well stocked
  • Using tools to move feed, animals and other equipment to the appropriate areas on the farm in an efficient manner
  • Maintaining trucks, tractors, milking equipment and other gear to ensure they remain in working order

Key skills and qualifications include:

  • An appropriate bachelor's degree or higher qualification or equivalent of 5+ years’ experience in dairy farming systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of OH&S Standards
  • Experience with managing day-to-day farm operations.
  • Professional presentation and approach
  • Positive attitude with a strong work ethic and good communication skills

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $76,600.00 to $85,000.00/year
