About the business unit:
Victim Services, Support and Reform (VSSR) is a part of the Police, Racing, Victims and Coordination Division of the Department of Justice and Community Safety and is responsible for coordinating a suite of services for victims of crime, including information, support and referral service for all victims of reported and unreported crimes through the Victims of Crime Helpline (Helpline), as well as funding state-wide services to provide eligible victims with flexible case management services to meet the practical, emotional and psychological needs of victims to help manage the effects of crime.
About the role:
The Victim Support Worker plays a key role in ensuring high-quality service delivery for victim-survivors of family violence and victims of crime that occurs in Victoria. This position undertakes the completion of family violence risk assessment and sa fety planning for male victims of family violence referred by Victoria Police, provides secondary consultations, and contributes to continuous improvement in the VSSR's response to family violence. The role also supports the broader work of the Victims of Crime Helpline, ensuring referral to the Victims Assistance Program (VAP) is provided to victims of all eligible crime types.
All Victim Support Workers are required to work flexibly over shifts 7 days per week including weekends and public holidays.
Some of your duties will include:
  • Act as a first point of contact for enquiries to the Helpline by responding to calls, electronic referrals, and text messages.
  • Contribute to daily triage processes, ensuring that family violence referrals are appropriately prioritised and actioned within the required time targets.
  • Provide information, support and referral services for all victims of reported and unreported crime ensuring that services are victim-centred, trauma-inform.ed, and culturally responsive.

About you:
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
  • At least two (2) years of paid practice experience in the family violence sector or a specialist family violence service and with victims of crime.
  • Experience working with male victims of family violence is preferred but not essential.
  • Understanding of the Victims Support service system and associated legislation as well as the broader service system (such as legal, mental health, and housing services).
  • Mandatory minimum requirements: a Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent form.al learning, including holding a Bachelor degree or above; or equivalent qualification. Qualifications must align with the Mandatory Minimum Qualification Requirements for Specialist Family Violence Workers (Recommendation 209).
