Legal & Compliance Counsel (6-Month Contract | Opportunity for Permanency)Sydney | Full-time or Part-time considered PQE Partners is working with a well-established investment and funds platform seeking a Legal & Compliance Counsel to support the business. This will start as a 6 month contract and has the opportunity to go permanent at the end. This organisation operates across private markets with a strong track record in complex equity transactions and an established debt platform. The legal and compliance function plays a central role in supporting investment execution, maintaining robust governance frameworks, and ensuring regulatory obligations are met across multiple jurisdictions. This opportunity is ideally suited to a commercially minded lawyer or legal & compliance professional who enjoys operating across both transactional and advisory work, with a particular strength in compliance and risk oversight. Key Responsibilities• Providing legal support across investment activities, including equity transactions, structuring and associated documentation• Advising internal stakeholders on regulatory obligations, licensing requirements and governance frameworks• Supporting the ongoing development, implementation and uplift of compliance policies, procedures and controls• Overseeing risk management processes and assisting with regulatory reporting obligations• Advising on fund and corporate governance matters, including board and committee support• Reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements with a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach• Working closely with senior stakeholders across investment, finance and operations teams About You• Qualified lawyer with solid post-qualification experience gained in-house, private practice, or a combination of both• Strong background in legal and regulatory compliance, ideally within financial services, funds, private markets or investment environments• Broad legal skillset with exposure to corporate, commercial and transactional matters• Comfortable working autonomously and partnering with senior commercial stakeholders• Practical, commercially astute and confident operating in lean environments• Senior candidates seeking part-time arrangements are encouraged to apply, though full-time availability will also be considered What’s on Offer• Flexible engagement structure with both part-time and full-time options available• Initial 6-month contract with genuine opportunity to transition into a permanent role• High-trust environment with direct access to senior decision-makers• Broad, hands-on role offering exposure across investments, governance and regulatory strategy• Opportunity to join a sophisticated investment platform with a strong market reputation If you are looking for a flexible, senior legal & compliance role where you can add immediate value in a commercially focused environment, we would love to hear from you.
