Lead Control Systems Engineer

We are representing a well-respected engineering specialist business seeking a Lead Control Systems Engineer to take technical ownership of complex international control systems projects.

This is a senior role for an experienced engineer who thrives on accountability, enjoys leading in high-pressure and ambiguous environments, and is genuinely willing to travel overseas for extended periods (up to 6 weeks at a time) during FATs, commissioning, and critical project phases.

• Act as the primary technical authority for PLC, SCADA, and DCS design, configuration, integration, and commissioning on international projects.
• Lead technical delivery during client meetings, Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), site commissioning, and handover.
• Provide confident, solutions-focused leadership to resolve complex technical issues while maintaining strong client and vendor relationships.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers, sharing knowledge and building team capability.
• Combine hands‑on engineering with project leadership and people management elements to successfully deliver outcomes.
• Ensure all work aligns with client standards, governance, and long‑term operational success.

• Extensive hands‑on experience with industrial control systems (PLC, SCADA, DCS) - Rockwell, Siemens, Yokogawa, Schneider, or equivalent.
• Proven track record leading or playing a key role in FATs, commissioning, and site delivery, ideally on international or remote projects.
• Strong technical problem‑solving skills with the ability to perform under pressure and make sound decisions in ambiguous situations.
• Experience in mining, energy, or heavy industrial projects is highly regarded.
• A professional service mindset - focused on delivering practical, long‑term value to clients and operators.
• Comfortable with project management responsibilities and people leadership.
• Australian working rights and a genuine willingness to travel internationally.
• RPEQ, CPEng, or strong willingness to pursue registration.
