This role sits within the People and Culture team and offers strong work from home flexibility (with remote options available), allowing employees to balance operational delivery with a flexible and supportive working environment.

The Role
Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Team Leader is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day delivery of payroll operations while leading a small team of three payroll professionals.
This role combines hands-on payroll processing with team leadership and operational oversight. You will ensure payroll is delivered accurately and on time across a national workforce while supporting team members, maintaining payroll data integrity, and driving continuous improvement across payroll systems and processes.
Working closely with People and Culture, Finance, and operational teams, you will play an important role in ensuring payroll compliance, responding to payroll queries, and maintaining strong payroll governance.

Key responsibilities include:

Payroll Operations Oversight
Supporting the accurate and timely delivery of fortnightly payroll across a national workforce.
Team Leadership
Leading, mentoring, and supporting a team of three payroll staff while maintaining strong payroll service delivery.
Payroll Processing Support
Contributing to end-to-end payroll processing and supporting complex payroll transactions where required.
Award Interpretation
Ensuring Awards, employment conditions, and enterprise agreements are applied correctly within payroll processes.
Payroll Data Management
Maintaining payroll and employee records including onboarding information, employee changes, and system updates.
Superannuation Administration
Supporting superannuation processes and ensuring contributions are managed in line with legislative requirements.
Statutory Reporting
Ensuring payroll compliance through accurate reporting including Single Touch Payroll and related obligations.
Payroll Systems Oversight
Supporting the maintenance of payroll, time and attendance, and personnel systems to ensure data accuracy.
Stakeholder Support
Working with internal teams to resolve payroll queries and ensure employees are paid accurately and on time.
Process Improvement
Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across payroll processes, reporting, and systems.
Confidentiality and Governance
Maintaining strict confidentiality while ensuring strong payroll data integrity and compliance.

You are an experienced payroll professional who enjoys balancing operational delivery with team leadership responsibilities. You take pride in delivering accurate payroll outcomes while supporting colleagues and maintaining strong payroll governance.
You are organised, detail focused, and comfortable working in a collaborative environment where payroll plays an important role in supporting a national workforce.

Key skills and experience include:

• Experience working in payroll roles within complex or multi-award environments
• Previous experience supervising or mentoring payroll staff
• Strong understanding of payroll legislation, superannuation, and employment conditions
• Experience working with payroll and HRIS systems
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage payroll data accurately
• Ability to interpret Awards, enterprise agreements, or employment conditions
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with internal stakeholders
• Well developed organisational and time management skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive payroll information
