The opportunity
Our Financial Services team is looking for an experienced and
enthusiastic Senior Accountant. You will assist in the
management of the accounting function to provide effective control,
and efficient use, of Council’s financial transactions, assets and
investments. In addition, you will improve organisational
effectiveness by providing an advisory analysis and information
service to assist business units with decision making and
planning.
You will contribute towards a culture of continuous improvement
by:
- Providing specialist advice on financial matters to
management and staff
- Development and maintenance of financial modelling
- Assist with preparation of the long-term financial plan,
budgets and annual statements
- Analysing the City’s overall performance and trends and
providing recommendations on how best to improve
performance
- Working effectively with auditors, government and other
agencies and finance industry representatives
- Preparing month and year-end financial reports and returns
in a timely manner in accordance with relevant standards and
legislation
- Management and review of general ledger functions,
reconciliations and journals
- Facilitating the continuous improvement of existing systems
and processes
- Ensuring accounting functions meet the City’s financial
services requirements
To be successful in this role, you will
need:
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting or Commerce
- Membership of CPA or ICAA or equivalent
- National Police Clearance
- Previous experience of accounting and management in a
medium/large organisation
- Understanding of business systems
- High level competence in financial management and
accounting
- Ability to interpret complex financial data
- Sound analytical and problem-solving skills
