Are you a decisive audit leader with the expertise and presence to drive complex, high‑stakes financial audits that deliver real impact?
The Director of Financial Audit plays a pivotal leadership role, accountable for overseeing the successful delivery of multiple, simultaneous audits across a diverse portfolio of government entities (State, Tertiary and Local Government). This role demands a strategic balance of audit quality, workforce capacity, and statutory reporting deadlines to uphold the Auditor General’s mandate.
As a trusted leader, you will guide senior managers and audit teams to build capability, lift performance, and champion key change initiatives across the Office. You will thrive in an environment that requires sound judgment, resilience, and the ability to lead confidently through periods of high workload, organisational change, and competing priorities.
The position applies expert professional judgement to form audit opinions and oversee assurance activities in accordance with auditing and accounting standards. It identifies significant audit matters and provides rigorous assessments of accounting practices, financial reporting, and key performance indicators. A key responsibility of the role is to translate complex audit issues into clear, accessible, and non‑technical language suitable for parliamentary reporting and stakeholder understanding. Throughout all activities, the role upholds the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and professional conduct, aligning with public sector values and the Office of the Auditor General’s codes of practice.
We are establishing a pool of candidates for full or part time, permanent and fixed term vacancies that arise until (28 February 2027). Fixed term appointments may have the possibility of permanency. This process may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies during this time.
