Accountant (General)

Majha Transport is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Accountant to join its growing team. The Accountant will be responsible for managing the company’s financial operations, including maintaining accurate financial records, preparing budgets and reports, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with taxation and accounting standards. The role involves monitoring expenses, processing payroll, preparing BAS statements, and supporting management with financial analysis to assist in strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, proficiency in accounting software such as MYOB or Xero, and a solid understanding of transport industry cost structures. This position requires a high level of accuracy, integrity, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced logistics environment.

Task & responsibilities

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date supplier, expense, and asset records.
• Perform expense and cost analysis to support management decisions.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, including profit and loss statements and balance sheets.
• Assist with month-end processes, reconciliations, and preparation of adjusting journal entries.
• Ensure the integrity of the general ledger and support end-of-year audit processes.
• Develop and monitor company budgets and forecasts.
• Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS), PAYG, and GST reports.
• Provide financial advice regarding business plans, structures, and accounting systems.
• Examine income and expenditure, conduct financial investigations, and prepare analytical reports.
• Assist in formulating and implementing budgetary and accounting policies.
• Liaise with auditors,and external regulatory authorities as required.

Qualification & experience

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or related field (essential).
• Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in an accounting role.
• Strong understanding of Australian Accounting Standards and taxation laws.
• Proficiency in MYOB, Xero, or similar accounting software.
• Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
• High attention to detail and ability to work independently.
